Xiaomi has a couple of earphones that can be categorized as budget earphones. Now with the Rs. 399 version of the earphone, Xiaomi is reaching out to those who can’t afford costly earphones but to give the maximum quality at this price point. Let’s check out the Mi basic budget earphones and find out if they are any good.

The Mi Earphones basic comes in a small paper box which contains the earphones and two extra pairs of earbuds – very basic package. The package says some of the specifications as below:

  • Inbuilt Microphone
  • Impedance: 32 ohms
  • Weight: 14 Grams
  • Jack type: 3.5 mm

Build quality

The earphones have a 1.2-meter cable. One thing you might want to notice is that the cable is a normal rubber type instead of a breaded cable which we can see on expensive earphones. But we have a right angled 3.5 mm jack. You also get an integrated microphone and a single control button to take/ cut the calls or to pause or play music. The expensive variant (Rs 700) had a breaded cable and extra volume plus and minus buttons on it.

Eartips on the Mi earphones basic is identical to what we have on the 699 version, they are good quality, have angled ear tips makes it comfortable to stay in your ear for a long time.

Sound quality

Considering the price point, I have to evaluate the earphone performance accordingly. For Rs. 399, Mi earphone basic is an excellent earphone. Keeping aside the fact that you get a substandard cable and single button control, when it comes to sound signature, the overall sound signature is balanced. The base frequency is a bit more emphasized which most people actually like. Dontget more wrong, it’s not a base heavy headset, but the base is just emphasized a bit for a pleasurable listening.

The mids are very clean and louder, could have been a little better but considering the price can’t complain. Overall considering the sound quality, this is a very good earphone. If I had to rate only based on sound, I would give it 9 out of 10.

If you have a Xiaomi smartphone, do the following to get a better sound signature.

  • Connect your earphone to the smartphone
  • Open Settings > Additional Settings > Headphones & audio effects
  • Select Youth Edition in headphone type.

If you are on a very tight budget and don’t want to spend over Rs. 400,  you can definitely go for this earphones. These offers true value for money if you’re not a basehead.
