Today we are doing a review and comparison of JBL Flip 4 vs UE Boom2. JBL Flip 4 is a very popular Bluetooth speaker out there, lot of people likes it very much whereas the UE Boom 2 is also popular but a bit on the expensive side. Ultimate Ears (UE) is a well known company for creating quality audio accessories like speakers and earphones. JBL does not need an introduction at all. Lets get started with the comparison and review:

JBL Flip 4 vs UE Boom 2 comparison

Design ( Flip 4 = Boom 2)

Both speakers are basically similar in terms of design. Even size thickness and the overall design is very similar to each other. Both speakers are wrapped with a fabric of high quality and it is tightly weaved. The fabric material add to the grip and overall durability of the product.

Both speakers are IPX 7 certified, this means that submerge them to water down to 1 meter for 30 minutes without any issues. This doesn’t mean you an just drop the speakers in to the pool or beach you go, but an unexpected slip from your hand wont cause any issues.

Both speakers have got speaker phone functions. This allows you to pick calls from your smartphone and answer them using the speakers.

Both speakers have big physical buttons which helps you to manage volume and power as well as connectivity. When it comes to ease of use, JBL Flip 4 has a dedicated button for play, pause and double tap will play the next track etc. In Boom to if you hit the top of the speaker will pause/play the song. For skipping a track, you can hit twice. Even though this seems interesting in theory but not completely reliable in practice.

Wireless/Bluetooth range ( Flip 4 = Boom 2)

Range is very similar on both speakers. Both gets around 50-70 feets, Boom 2 get a slight edge on the range. Note that these distances are with a direct line of sight. If you are using them in your house, or there are people in the middle, you may find songs are cut in the middle if you place it on the upper distance.

Connectivity and charging ( Flip 4 = Boom 2)

Both speakers has auxiliary ports to supply audio from other sources directly using a cable. They charge with a micro USB port, takes around 2-3 hours to completely get charged.

Battery backup (Flip 4 = Boom 2)

Boom 2 on paper shows up to 15 hours of battery back up whereas the Flip 4 is supposed to get 12 hours of charge. But guess what, both speakers will get around 10-12 hours of charge with 75% of volume. I would say the UE Boom 2 sometimes stays shorter than the Flip 4.

Price (JBL Flip 4 )

While the specifications and performance is neck and neck most of the cases price is the one factor which decides the fate of either. JBL flip 4 starts at $100 where as the UE Boom 2 sells around $150. When it comes to India, the prices even go up. The JBL Flip 4 sells for around 7748 Rs whereas the UE Boom 2 sells in amazon for 13990. That is a huge difference. We dont really see any reason to spend extra 6-7k on the Boom 2 when you can get the Flip 4.

Audio quality (JBL Flip 4 ↑)

There is a clear difference in audio quality among both. Here the Flip 4 wins!. The sound is more thumping and deeper in Flip 4 and it handles the high volumes better than Boom 2.

Benefits of Boom 2  (Boom 2 ↑)

The major reason why people would go with Boom 2 could be its 360 degree sound virtually. It is slightly more durable too. Also, the Boom 2 is a bit louder than Flip 4 sometimes.

Here on comparison with the specifications and price, JBL Flip 4 is the winner. This is mainly because for the extra price you are giving for Boom 2 is basically for nothing.
