Design & durability

The JBL Flip series is constructed sturdy and tough. That makes them perfect to use at any conditions even in outdoors.

Flip 2 is available in different colors like black, white, yellow, blue etc. You’ll get a carrying case that too with the same color as the speaker. On comparison, the flip 2 is the heaviest among the three. Due to its cyclindrical shape it can be oriented either horizontally or vertically.

Flip 3 has 2 big advantage over Flip 2. It is water resistant and lightweight. The exterior is splash proff, you can even wash them under tap water, but you cant submerge it in water as it is not completely water proof. Buttons are on the smaller side yet they are very tactile and easy to touch.

Flip 4 is slightly bigger and heavier but still very portable and durable for most peoples needs. The nylon fabric covered over the speaker gives a very rugged experience and the best part is it is now not just splash proof but an IPX7 certified waterproof. This means it is now fully submersible on water.

Sound quality

For the small speakers category, Flip 3 gets very loud for its size will surely fill up a small room which is just enough for personal enjoyment. Due to its small size, the base is not heavy hitting, but compared to other speakers on the same price range, this one has better base. Also, the vocals are very distinct and mid ranges emphasize as required. It tends to loose some of its clean clarity when put to test under max volumes sometimes , not every time but depending on the sound that you plays.

Flip 4 sound quality and volume levels are actually more than enough to fill up small bedrooms and dorm rooms and at full volume it can fill in a medium sized rooms easily. The sound is full base oriented but that is not distorted or you will never feel it is overpowered by base at any point of time. If you turn the volume up further, the base range stay the same but the mid and upper ranges emphasize.

On the other hand Flip 2 is least powered among all. Flip 3 & Flip 4 are defiantly ahead of Flip 2 in terms of sound. The other two speakers are louder and produces better quality sound than Flip 2.

It is quite noticeable that small speakers always loss resolution and details, but still it is great choice for personal listening.

Verdict: Which is better?

It is clear from the above points that there is no reason to buy JBl flip 2 now in 2018. It is already 5 year old and has got nothing better compared to others. So we have now left with Flip 3 and flip 4. Now the choice is simple, if you are ready to pay Rs. 1000 extra for waterproof and a 2 year ahead technology than flip 3, Go with flip 4 else stay with flip 3 which might save you some money since both speakers has almost identical sound quality.
