How to Set a Specific Contact to Silent Mode in Android

Do you ever wanted to have only specific contacts to be silenced leaving others in normal mode?. Sometimes you need set the contact ringing volume to silent or vibration. In android you can set different ringtones for each of your contacts, but usually no option to silence a specific call. Thus we’ve to look for a third-party app that lets you accomplish this. You can follow any of the following methods  to silent specific contacts.

One easy method:

If you want it to be done without using any apps, then the best way to put a contact in silent mode is to set that contact a silent custom ring tone. In android you can set a silent ring tone for a contact by the following method.

  • Download this 10 second mp3 silent ring tone and copy it over the phone’s Sd card
  • Go to contacts, scroll for that particular person for you want to set silent and select
  • Touch menu button, then tap options
  • Touch the ringtone and open file manager and select the silent mp3 file

This method has one disadvantage that we cant put it to vibrate a particular contact. Its somewhat a Lights Only mode.

Method 2 – Using third-party application

We always prefer downloading an external app if the present options are not enough to make it comfortable. Here’s an android app that let you set custom ringtones and vibrations for different contacts, calls , messages, Gmail etc. It is called WhoIsIt Lite available to download free in android market. If you want to put a particular contact to silent mode with vibrations, just use the silent ring tone and an appropriate vibration pattern.
