The Huami Amazfit Verge watches are the latest edition of smartwatches just over 10K INR with a water-resistant design, heart rate monitoring and NFC support for payments. The Verge model smartwatch comes at a price of around Rs. 12000 in the Indian Market. Here we compare its features against another Huami product, the Amazfit Pace which costs Rs.10K. The Pace model is a multisport edition with GPS support for tracking various sports.

Design

  • The Amazfit Verge has a 1.30 inch (360 x 360) circular AMOLED display. It is protected by a  Corning Gorilla Glass 3 screen guard whereas the Pace model only has an LCD of 1.34″ with a resolution of 320 x 300 pixels.
  • The Amazfit Pace has tough ceramic bezel
  • Both models from Huami are run by 1.2 GHz dual-core processors.
  • The Amazfit Verge and the Amazfit Pace has 512MB RAM and 4GB eMMC. The eMMC is short for “embedded Multi-Media Controller”. It is a combination of flash memory with a flash memory controller.
  • The Verge has IP68 dust and water-resistant design. This rating means that the watch is resistant to submersion up to a depth no higher than 1.5m underwater for up to 30 minutes.
  • The Pace has IP67 water resistance which means it can be dropped to a depth of 1 meter for up to 30 minutes compared to the IP68 resistance offered by the Verge.
  • The Verge weighs in a mere 46 grams whereas the Pace come sin at 53.7 grams.

Connectivity

  • It has both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity features along with NFC payment facilities and GPS+GLONASS. It uses low energy Bluetooth 4.0 version and Wi-Fi 802.11b/g standards.
  • The Verge is compatible with all Android devices using  OS 4.4 versions or higher. It is also compatible with iOS 9.0 or later.
  • The Aamzfit Pace can receive notifications for calls, messages, emails and other apps. It supports tracking of multiple sports. You will get detailed analytics for over twelve different sports.

Battery

  • The Amazfit Verge is powered by a 390mAh battery to give 5 days of usage time for moderate use. The Pace model uses a 290mAh battery providing a standby time of 120 hours. The Pace model gives up to eleven days of battery life for standard use and up to five days for heavy use. It provides a continuous 35 hours of battery life for continuous heart rate tracking and GPS tracking.

Verdict

Both the watches from Huami, the Amazfit Verge and the Amazfit Pace differ in price by about 2000 INR. So is the price difference justified? The improvements made in the Verge model from the Pace are the following.

  • Verge is IP68 rated for water resistance over the IP67 rated Pace model.
  • Verge has a dual-core processor and the pace does not.
  • The Amazfit Verge has an AMOLED display compared to the LCD of Pacemaking it better visibility in sunlight.
  • The Verge model has a higher resolution display with 360×360 pixels compared to the 320×300 pixel resolution of the Pace.
  • Verge also has a few additional sensors compared to Pace.
  • The Battery life is the same but Verge provides more functions compared to Pace for the same battery life owing to its larger capacity battery.
  • The 4.2 version of Bluetooth technology used in Verge gives it improved connectivity compared to the 4.0 version Bluetooth used in Pace.

Based on these conclusions, if the improvements are something you require in your smartwatches, go for the Verge model or else the Pace model is more than enough.
