There are times when you really want the details of that song playing around you but there’s no one to help you out. Shazam is a music discovery app released few years back, which is still the best sound search app that will do this job for you. All you have to do is just show your smartphone to the direction of sound – the app will record and search parallel in its database for the beat and come up with the result. I would say searches with Shazam is interestingly accurate.
Nowadays, almost everyone uses Google now on their android smartphones. One of the things that you generally miss is the sound search app that google app provides within itself. Yes, you don’t have to install it separately. Most probably when you bought the phone Google app will be installed already. If that’s the case you can bring the app to your home screen from the widgets.
Note: Widgets are those small apps that can run on your device’s home screen. Usually widgets can be used to do a particular function directly just by clicking the icon, so it saves time of going to the particular app and finding the required menus/buttons there. Widget icons can display live status of a process.
Just Follow the steps to use Google Sound Search widget:
If you have a Xiaomi phone, press and hold the recents button. A screen like the one shown below will be displayed. From that tap on Widgets. For Samsung phones, widgets can be found just by pressing and holding on an empty space in home screen. It will be similar for other phones too.
Now you will be able to see all the widgets that are available on your phone. Scroll right or left to find out Google. In Google you can see “Google Sound Search” blue icon. Just tap on it. If you don’t have enough room on your current home screen, move to/or create a new screen and tap on the icon to add it.
You’re almost there. Now tap on the blue music icon you just have added to your screen to open the app. Just show the phone to the direction the song is coming, usually within a few seconds, you will get the results. If you are in a noisy environment, you are likely to get no results.
Comparison with other music search apps:
Soundhound and Shazam are two main music discovery apps. Both helps you identify the songs playing around you. Apart from these apps Google Now, Siri and Cortana can all do this. But honestly speaking, all these apps are mostly hit or miss. Especially if you try these apps in aclub where they play remixes and sped up or slowed down tracks it really struggles and gives poor results. Tests shows that Shazam and Soundhound handle these scenarios better.
But one advantage of using Google Sound Search is that you don’t have to install another app for it and give all those permissions and allow them to eat battery.
