MIUI has many android features that are customized in a fashion that is more user friendly and advantageous. One such feature that is introduced by Xiaomi in MIUI 8 is the Second Space. Second space is like having two devices, on a software point of view at least. Once a Second Space is created, you can switch between the spaces easily. You can easily transfer files between Second Space and “First Space” and whatnot. Wait.. If you are new to Second space, I ‘ll tell you how to import and export files in Second space.
Additionally you can make apps work in both spaces. That means if you have installed an app in first space, you can configure to make those apps to work in both spaces. Also, you can import your contacts to second space.
Second space is like having different user accounts in a Windows computer. The basic idea of an administrator and he creates n number of other user account is replicated here. However, in android the number of spaces is limited to two. Hence the name “Second Space”.
How To Transfer Files To/From Second Space In MIUI 8?
If you have just created a second space and switched, you might feel the space misses some of the important files or photos etc. But you can easily transfer files from default space to newly created space.
For starters, you can create a Second Space in your smartphone by Going to Settings > Second Space
If you open the file explorer, you might notice that it is completely fresh and none of the files you have store in other space is available. Well, Xiaomi has created a way to move apps and data between spaces.
Once you have created the Second space and to begin transferring your files, tap on the icon “Move data”. You might need to authorize by fingerprint or pattern. You will be presented with following options:
- Share apps between spaces
- Import photos
- Import files
- Import contacts
- Export Photos
- Export files
- Export contacts
Note that, if you set an app to work on both second space and default space, only the application will be copied to the current space. For example, if you have WhatsApp on your default space and you have decided to used it on second space. You need to verify If you open the file explorer, you might notice that it is completely fresh and none of the files you have store in other space is available. Well, Xiaomi has created a way to move apps and data between spaces.in second space again. Another interesting fact is that, by this way you can actually use up to 3 WhatsApp accounts in a single device. By the way, I couldn’t find the Dual Apps feature from Settings in second space otherwise it would have been four!
